Jean Dubuffet (31 July 1901 12 May 1985), was a French painter and sculptor who had an idealistic approach to art whereby he embraced both low (untraditional) and high (traditional) art as legitimate standards for expressing beauty. Dubuffet experimented with the concept of mental illness as well as the mind of the child - disassociated from condoned societal standards. Dubuffet influenced Art Brut (Raw Art) as he bypassed the social construct an let his mind flow directly through the paint.
